As I have continued the "lesson's" podcast's, I have shown how many different way's, composer's blend music and lyric's. Sometime's a pre-written work, that is put to rhythm and melody, sometime's a writing precede's the intention and addition of song. Sometimes the cart lead's the horse and a tune come's into our head's and eventually we find a lyrical companion. "Jam's" with friend's can spontaneously generate a tune and or lyric's. Finally in the basic breakdown, there are time's when we have an intention of the lyrical story, and the music is a prerequisite following or preceding our story's.
Earlier this week, on the podcast, I/we wrote and composed a parody of the twelve day's in paradise, blending the traditional melody and easy chord's with the intention of doing a male version of the many voices of Broadway star Christine Pedi. It wasn't my best song, but was our first and therefore best effort to date. Today, perchance we can do one better. My choice is to share and try to find the missing piece's of one of my last work in progress song's with the Elf King's. The title is warm summer breeze, and it was, is, in the key of A. The basic framework of matching a melody with a particular key, begin's with the 1, 3, 5, circle, with landing's almost always on the 1, or less often the 5, the 3 bridges the two. C, is the defined "pure" key, on the piano, every note in the key of C is a white key, the black key's comprise the flat's and sharp's which are half tone changes. A is a key with three sharp's, with this simple measurement of the sharp key's: G, one sharp, D, two sharps, A, 3 sharp's and so on. simple math. This being said, and the fact that summer breeze was composed when I was a flute player, and had very basic guitar skill's, used only to compose and share melody's that I would accompany on flute.
Today, the spoken word theme, will be an easy completion of a one time favorite new song of the Elf King's.
