Comedy can stand alone, hence stand up comedy. Music is most often shared with no comedic intention or affect. Howsoever, comedy and music have danced together throughout time. When an infant begins to laugh at beating on a ten can or other first musical introduction, this represent's an humorous side to music, just as it is. This is the comedic principle of surprise or the unexpected. As thing's become known and anticipated they no longer hit the funny bone.
Today, and for the past century, music has intentionally included comedic content, and stage and screen are rife with musical comedy's. Romantic comedy's usually use music as a romantic element, with the comedy being subtle, and rarely guilty of standup techniques. We. can recognize comedic effort's like Grandma got run over by a reindeer. or proud to be an Okie from Muskogee. and the list is huge. And finally there are the subtle show tunes of Sinatra, Doris Day and other's that were constant extractions from plays or movies on variety shows and specials throughout the 50's and 60's. Love and Marriage, go together like a horse and carriage, and Let's call the whole thing off.
